RIBES nigrum BLACKCURRANT Ben Gairn

Bred by the Scottish Crop Research Institute and released in 1998, a very early season blackcurrant.  Excellent variety producing large fruits with a good uniform quality that are both juicy and have an excellent flavour.  Ben Gairn is currently the only UK variety with resistance to Blackcurrant Reversion Virus – a disease that renders the plant sterile.  It also has good disease resistance, particularly to most foliar diseases, making it suitable for organic growing.  A compact growth habit allows for planting in small gardens/allotments.  Eventual height and spread: 1.2m (4ft).  Cropping season: early-mid July.  Self fertile.

This product is supplied in a 3 litre pot.

Where possible, 3 litre stock will be supplied pot grown between late spring and early Autumn, thereafter the plants could be fresh potted. Please enquire for clarification.

Bare root stock is available for dispatch between November & late March. Orders can be placed in advance, just bear in mind that payment will be taken in full at time of ordering.
