Description

PRUNUS cerasifera
Cherry Plum

Cherry plum is an excellent choice for rural hedging thanks to its large sheltering canopy and slightly thorny branches; popular thanks to its sweet fruit and easy growing nature. Masses of pure white flowers smother the branches in early March before the leaves appear and these are followed in autumn by tasty red or yellow, spherical cherry-plums.  It will form a dense deciduous hedge and its thorny twigs will make it an effective barrier.  Will grow on most well drained soils.
