ARONIA x prunifolia CHOKEBERRY Viking
Aronia Viking is a self fertile, erect branching shrub with ovate, glossy dark green leaves that are hairy underneath. Clusters of white, pink-flushed flowers in late spring are followed by edible fruits that resemble blackcurrants. Like Blackcurrants they are very high in vitamin C and can be used in much the same way including jams, jellies and wine. Come autumn this plant turns into a real feature as the foliage turns to orange and red. This plant enjoys a sunny or partial shady spot and is best planted in well draining soil although shallow chalky soils are to be avoided. It can also be grown well in a pot.
