RIBES uva-crispa GOOSEBERRY Hinnonmaki Red
A superb variety – very hardy and vigorous mid-season red gooseberry. Hinnonmaki Red reliably produces heavy crops of large, sweet, red berries of excellent quality. It was specifically bred in Finland for hardiness and disease resistance and is particularly resistant to mildew making it ideal for organic growing. It is also a strong but slow growing variety so is ideal for small gardens. An excellent variety for dessert or culinary purposes. Eventual height and spread: 1m (3ft). Cropping season: mid July. Self fertile.
3 litre stock will be supplied pot grown where possible.
Bare root stock is available for dispatch between late October & late March. Orders can be placed in advance at any time, just bear in mind that payment will be taken in full at time of ordering.

Likes an open sunny or lightly shaded frost-free spot, sheltered from strong winds. Prefers a slightly acid, moist but well-drained fertile soil.
Soak the root-ball before planting. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the root-ball or pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.
Fruit is produced on previous year’s shoots. Cut back all shoots by one-half after planting. Develop a framework of 6-8 branches. Each winter from year 3 shorten leading shoots by one-half and remove branches from the centre of the bush. Shorten side shoots from last year’s growth to 2 buds. Apply a general fertiliser in spring.
