RUBUS idaeus RASPBERRY Glen Lyon
This early – mid season variety is moderate in vigour with an upright habit. The cane are spine-free and produce heavy crops of beautiful glossy fruit, moderate in size. The fruit is orange-red in colour, has a round to slightly conical shape. The berries are firm with a good acidic raspberry flavour. Lyon has good disease resistance to aphid virus, cane botrytis & leaf spot virus. The fruit has a good shelf life and freezes well. Cropping season: early-late July. Self fertile.
Bare root stock is available for dispatch between late October & late March. Orders can be placed in advance at any time, just bear in mind that payment will be taken in full at time of ordering.
Soak the root-ball before planting. Plant 45cm (18in) apart in rows 1.2m (4ft) apart. Plant in a sheltered spot in a well-drained but moist, fertile soil in full sun or light shade. Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the root-ball or pot. Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil. Water regularly until established.
Fruit is produced on the previous year’s cane. First year cut down old canes when new shoots appear. Cut older cane back to ground level after fruiting and tie in newly produced cane & remove tips.
