RIBES rubrum PINKCURRANT Gloire De Sablons 3L

Rarely available in shops, but easy to grow, pink currants are highly desirable for decorating desserts or making summer puddings, jams & jellies. Gloire de Sablon is a very old French variety producing beautiful pink currants that are soft, translucent, have a delighful fragrance and are bursting with a sweet juicy flavour. These robust plants have good disease & pest resistance and produce heavy crops – ideal if you want a plant that requires little care.  Crops: July. Eventual height and spread: 1.2m.  Self fertile.

This plant is supplied in a 3L pot.

Planting:

Plant 45cm (18in) apart in rows 1.2m (4ft) apart.

Plant in a sheltered spot in a well-drained but moist, fertile soil in full sun or light shade.

Soak the root-ball before planting.  Plant in a hole twice the diameter of the root-ball or pot.  Mix an organic soil improver and general fertiliser with the infill soil.  Water regularly until established.

After Care:

Fruit is produced on previous year’s canes.  First year cut down old canes when new shoots appear.  Cut older canes back to ground level after fruiting, tie in newly produced canes and remove tips.
